Job Description for Camp Nursing:
Some duties will include the following:
1. Will act as liaison between Infirmary and Summer Camp
2. Review medical forms for special alerts and concerns.
3. Examine campers and staff upon arrival in camp for lice or general problems.
4. Confer with parents about special problems and needs of their children.
5. Collect medications and set-up schedule for dispensing of them.
6. Maintain medical log, complete forms for each illness/injury and update the progress notes as needed.
7. Will attend staff meetings and notify staff of health problems and concerns.
8. The camp will confer with infirmary/nurse daily on making decisions on campers about participation in activities per their health needs.
9. Prepare and maintain first aid kits for various on-site locations and off campus trips.
10. Maintain a first aid center in the infirmary and order all necessary supplies.
11. Inventory supplies at end of season for reorder.
12. Establish and maintain working relationship with local doctors and hospital.
13. Work with director and owners on recommendations for changes.
14. Carry out the Standing Orders as approval by physician annually.
15. Review all Incident/Accident Reports to identify ways to prevent and reduce incidents, accidents and injuries.
16. Close up infirmary at the end of camp season.
Standing Orders:
Standing orders need to be developed by your camp doctor and can include the following below. The standing orders need to be signed by your camp doctor annually.
Simple procedure like: sunburns, bug bites, bee stings, abrasions, minor lacerations, allergy shots, anaphylaxis, asthma, athlete’s foot, insect bite, animal or human bite, bleeding, blisters, strains, sprains, burns, common cold, sore throats, conjunctivitis, constipation, convulsion, diarrhea, vomiting, ear pain, foreign body in eye, fever, headache, nausea, nosebleed, poison ivy, splinters, sunburn, ticks, toothaches. With each procedure above a policy and procedure written and signed by doctor
Drugs and dosage for: Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Adrenalin or Epi-pen, Milk of Mag, Maalox, Benadryl, Cold and Cough Syrup, Cough Drops, Mylanta, Sudafed, Loratidine, Artificial Tears
